This tends to be problematic since, as an aspiring writer, I have no boss and no obligation to anyone but myself.
My friend Jen and I both struggle with this issue, and we've discussed the possibility of using each other for schedule enforcement. She says she's very good at being authoritative when it comes to making sure someone else sticks to schedule. I imagine I could do the same.

Here is a copy of email I just sent to Jen:

Sergeant McCreary,
Okay, so I came up with a very ambitious schedule for myself. I'm going to
try it out this week.
Here's what it looks like:
(exercise is scheduled for 9:30-11:00 every day)
Monday: 7-9am write; 9:30-11:00 exercise; 1-4pm write; 7-10pm improv class
Tuesday: 7-9am write; exercise; 1-6:30 work at Elite
Wednesday: 7-9am write; exercise; 1-6:30 Elite
Thursday: 7-9am write; exercise; 1-6:30 Elite
Friday: 7-9am write; exercise; 1-4pm write
Saturday: 11:30-4pm Elite
Sunday: 7-9am write; 1-4pm write
In the evenings I plan to READ, since I'm not very well read. I'm thinking
50 pages a night...
What do you think?
I'm totally scared to commit to such a regimented schedule. It kind of
gives me the willies: a natural reaction to commitment. But I know I won't
flourish without it. It has to be done.

Am I the only person who's terrified of schedules? What's up with that?
Why can't I just grow up and buckle down?

I'm not terrified of schedules...I'm just not able to stick to them!
This semester, I have to be ON TOP OF IT! I have thesis hours, an independent study, and a TAship -- none of which require me to be anywhere at any particular time most days. I have to be extremely self-directed. As you know, I struggle with this as well.
I usually get the school/work stuff done. What suffers is home and self.
Just yesterday, I started the first day of my new daily to-do list. It has basic stuff like drink water and do crunches and some broad tasks like "one domestic chore". Tonight my chore is to organize the shoes.
Sounds like your regiment will help you with focus. Just make sure to embrace your spontaneity!
Good luck on that schedule... I know we've talked about this before. I have a similar problem!
By the way, you've made a cameo in my hiking blog.
You can do it babes! I believe in you!
How is your schedule going?
I am supposed to be following a schedule to have this assignment done by noon...
But I'm commenting on your blog instead!
time for a new post
